Well, my regular subscription copy of the issue of National Review with my name on the cover has arrived. Whether or not that means that it is on the stands, I can't say, but be sure to pick up a copy and then write to the editors to request that the author whose piece begins on page 30 becomes a regular contributor.
For the sake of anybody who's arrived here as a result of the piece, I should mention one helpful feature of Dust in the Light: If you find that the layout makes for difficult reading, just click "Turn Light On" at the top of the left-hand column. That'll brighten and simplify things.
Posted by Justin Katz at December 30, 2004 9:34 PMI received my copy via mail on Tuesday. The article is quite good. One quibble is that Sullivan is no longer steadfast in the War on Terror. Sullivan supported Kerry in the election even though he had serious doubts about Kerry on national security. Sullivan never said this directly, but he correctly figured that Kerry was far likelier than Bush to nominate judges who will discover a constitutional right to same-sex marriage. If Sullivan had thought otherwise he would have supported Bush.
One idea for a follow-up is a story on how Sullivan contradicts himself on other topics to conceal his single-issue motivation. As an example, check his archives to see how Sullivan's comment on Bush's 2004 State of the Union speech creates a false impression of Sullivan's opinion on Bush's previous SOTU speeches. Another possibility is how Sullivan makes everything personal.
